Wadsworth Turkey Drop returns Friday

WADSWORTH — Stuffed turkeys will take a flying leap from a downtown Wadsworth building Friday as Wadsworth Community Radio brings back its Turkey Drop for a second year. Inspired by the classic Thanksgiving episode of the television sitcom "WKRP in Cincinnati," the event features stuffed-animal turkeys tossed from the top of the radio station's building, with prizes waiting for participants. The free, family-friendly event will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday as part of Main Street Wadsworth's November First Friday celebration. The Turkey Drop made its debut during last year's November First Friday, which featured Thanksgiving-themed activities throughout downtown. The radio station is bringing back the unusual competition as part of this year's evening of community activities. This year's lineup will include an adult Turkey Drop and two separate children's drops. Participants can also take part in a gobble contest to see who can produce Wadsworth's best turkey call, along with Plinko and opportunities to win prizes donated by local businesses. Wadsworth Community Radio personalities will host the activities throughout the evening. Organizers are also encouraging residents to follow the event's social media page for additional announcements about prizes, sponsors and Turkey Drop times. The Turkey Drop is one part of this month's First Friday celebration, which carries the theme "Giving Thanks to Our Veterans." As part of the recognition, posters honoring veterans from the Wadsworth community will be displayed throughout downtown. The displays will be spread across Main, Broad, High and College streets, giving residents an opportunity to walk through downtown and recognize local men and women who have served in the military. Main Street Wadsworth credited American Legion Post 170 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1089 for supporting the veterans recognition project. The monthly First Friday events bring residents and visitors downtown for community activities and opportunities to explore local businesses.
