Medina County school districts meet or exceed state standards on 2025-26 Ohio School Report Cards

School districts in Medina County received between 3.5 and 5 stars on the Ohio School Report Cards for the 2025-26 school year because each district met or exceeded state standards. The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce released the Ohio School Report Cards, which give districts across the state a star rating in the following categories: Achievement measures how well students perform on state tests. Progress measures how students have grown based on their past performance. Gap closing measures the reduction in educational gaps among student groups. Graduation measures the percentage of students who graduate within four or five years. Early literacy measures the reading improvement and proficiency for kindergarten through third grade students. College, career, workforce and military readiness measures how prepared students are for opportunities in their future. Scoring in the individual categories combines to create an overall rating for each school district, ranging from one star to five stars in half-star increments. "This report card highlights how Ohio is preparing graduates with a portfolio of knowledge, skills and experiences to be successful following high school," Department of Education and Workforce Director Stephen Dackin said. "More students earned industry-recognized credentials, college credits and are proficient in a technical career path than ever before. Ohio is strengthening the industry-recognized credentials offered to students." Highland Schools obtained the highest overall rating in Medina County. The district received five stars, showing it significantly exceeded state standards. Highland received five stars in each category except for progress, which had four stars. Brunswick Schools and Wadsworth Schools both earned a 4.5-star rating, exceeding state standards. Brunswick obtained five stars in gap closing and graduation, four stars in achievement, progress and future readiness and three stars in early literacy. Wadsworth was given five stars in gap closing and graduation, four stars in achievement, progress and early literacy and two stars in future readiness. About half of Medina County's school districts had a four-star rating, which also exceeds state standards. Buckeye Schools, Cloverleaf Schools and Medina Schools fall under this category. Buckeye received five stars in graduation and early literacy, four stars in achievement, gap closing and future readiness and two stars in progress. Cloverleaf had five stars in gap closing and graduation, four stars in achievement and three stars in progress, early literacy and future readiness. Medina earned five stars in gap closing and graduation, four stars in achievement, and three stars in progress, early literacy, and future readiness. Black River Schools earned an overall rating of 3.5 stars, meeting state standards. Black River gained five stars in graduation, four stars in future readiness, three stars in achievement and progress and two stars in gap closing and early literacy. "Student-centered decisions, guided by purpose and best practices, lead to meaningful outcomes for students and families," Dackin said. "Our work goes beyond teaching children to read. We are building and fortifying a statewide infrastructure that will position Ohio to be a national leader in literacy and performance outcomes."
