Rob Winton begins role as Buckeye's new curriculum director

YORK TWP. — Rob Winton started serving as Buckeye Schools' new curriculum director ahead of the 2026-27 school year. Winton began his career as an art teacher at Kenston Schools, where he taught middle and high school for six years. He then spent four years as an assistant principal at Chagrin Falls High School, was a principal at Rocky River High School for 10 years and spent last year as assistant principal at North Olmsted High School. "Buckeye is a district I'm familiar with since they were in the same athletic conference as Rocky River, and I got to know (Buckeye) High School Principal Adam Smith pretty well," he said. "Buckeye has a pretty good reputation, so when the job opened up, I threw my hat in the ring. I was lucky enough to be selected." Curriculum and instruction has always interested Winton. For instance, it was a topic he worked on in depth, especially at Rocky River. "Over a 10-year period, you have a lot of different curricular changes that come through, and it was always nice to be involved in that process with the teachers," he said. "I enjoyed it, and I was looking for the ability to expand that beyond my knowledge of the secondary world into a job that allowed me to do it from a K-12 lens." As curriculum director, Winton oversees all the kindergarten through 12th grade curriculum within the district along with gifted services, professional development, general district planning and the resident educator program. "I will be in charge, along with the teachers, of any type of new textbook adoptions and any curricular changes that come from the state," he said. "The most pressing one right now is Senate Bill 19, which has to do with math and math curriculum changes and pacing of that sort." Winton said he looks forward to spending this school year at Buckeye. "I think Buckeye is a district that has a solid reputation," he said. "It is steeped in tradition. I think there's also a lot of opportunity here for growth, not just with myself professionally, but also working with the staff and students to try to do the best we can on the state measurements that we get rated on."
