Volleyball roundup: Medina captures Suburban League National Conference debut

MEDINA — The Medina volleyball team made its Suburban League National Conference debut Tuesday with a convincing 25-12, 25-17, 25-12 blowout of Stow. Kate Schellenberger led the Bees (3-0, 1-0) with 13 kills. Grace Tabaka added 23 digs, Maddie Tucker put down six blocks and the duo of Lauren Sherman (17 assists) and Eva Myers (15) combined for 32 assists. In other matches: Cloverleaf 25-25-25, Cuyahoga Falls 14-15-12 WESTFIELD TWP. — Marlo Downing had 11 kills and 14 digs, powering the Colts (3-2, 1-0) past the Black Tigers (1-2, 0-1) in the Metro Athletic Conference opener. Cloverleaf also got 23 assists from Karagen Beier, five aces from Tessa Bogucki and two aces from Ellie Marshall. Black River 25-25-25, Wooster Christian 6-8-9 SULLIVAN TWP. — Haley Jackson starred with 17 points (7 aces) as the Pirates (2-2) breezed by the non-OHSAA Eagles in a non-league match. Jenevieve Dieter led the offense with 11 assists, seven points (2 aces) and six kills, while Sydney Czarny added nine points (6 aces) and six kills. Highland 24-25-25-25, Brecksville 26-21-14-20 GRANGER TWP. — Samantha Ross recorded 15 kills and 12 digs and Payton Hrics (22 assists) and Emma Tramonte (16) combined for 38 assists as the Hornets (1-1, 1-0) won their SL National debut by taking out the Bees (0-1, 0-1). Alaina Weingart (24 digs) and Gigi Shank (15) added double-digit digs, Gigi Shank had four aces and Emeri Gausman had four blocks. Cuyahoga Heights 17-25-25-25, Medina Christian 25-17-18-14 MONTVILLE TWP. — The Knights (1-3) got off to a strong start but couldn't sustain momentum against the Redskins (3-1) in a non-league match. Hailey Mendrea (11 kills, 9 digs), Addi Wolf (6 kills, 3 blocks) and Audrey Yarman (6 kills, 11 digs, 4 aces) were the top performers.
