The Social House to open at Mapleside Farms

BRUNSWICK — Mapleside Farms is soon adding The Social House to its property with the intention of giving its customers a place to eat, drink and socialize in different environments. Mapleside owner Greg Clement said the farm is typically visited in the fall, so the goal is to have The Social House serve as a year-round destination for the company. Grapes were planted three years ago, and the plants are yielding fruit that can be used in wine. "The Social House is going to be like a winery, brewery and eatery," he said. "The one word I think that describes it is craft, so craft beer, craft wine and craft food. It is a place for people to come, hang out, drink together, eat together and have fun together." Guests can seat themselves in the following sections: The Apple House turned into "The Great Room," featuring a large central bar, open seating and communal tables. The former bakery is now "The Press," which will be open early for coffee and pastries and will offer cocktails, wine and food later in the day. The gift shop became "The Library" and will operate as a slower and more intimate space within The Social House. "It's not like you come in, you sit down, you pay your bill and you leave," Clement said. "It's more of a place that you can experience with the people you love. I think the best part about life is experiencing the world with the people you love, so that's why we wanted to try to create an environment that lets people do that." The Social House at 294 Pearl Road in Brunswick will open in a month, he said. A job fair seeking front-of-house and back-of-house employees will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Monday at The Lodge at Mapleside. "We think if you give people a reason to come here, they will, so that's what The Social House is," Clement said. "We're still going to do all the things we normally do like the festivals, concerts, weddings and events, but this is allowing us to have that year-round anchor. We're super excited about that."
