Girls tennis roundup: Lily Hantz, Hornets cruise

ASHLAND — The Highland girls tennis team cruised to a 4-1 non-league victory over Ashland on Thursday. First singles player Lily Hantz (6-0, 6-1) and third singles Sophia Bublitz (6-3, 6-1) won in straight sets, while Ava Tople recovered from dropping the first set to win 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 and the second doubles team Lacy Piechowiak and Taylor Keller won 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. BARBERTON — With the Colts and Magics tied at two apiece, the first doubles match between Cloverleaf's Maddie Young and Marlena Zufan against Barberton's Lillie Horne and Addie Horne was suspended due to darkness before the third set began. The match will be completed at a later date. The Colts won the first set 7-6 before losing the second set by the same score. Elsewhere, Cloverleaf got wins from Ava White (7-5, 6-3) at third singles and the team of Nina Spry and Anna Slansky (6-3, 6-4) at first doubles.
