Golf roundup: Highland's Hayden Hoyt stays hot with even-par 71

HUDSON — Highland senior Hayden Hoyt tied for third and the Brunswick boys golf team took third on a fifth-player tiebreaker at the Nordonia Classic at Ellsworth Meadows Golf Club on Tuesday. Hoyt continued the red-hot start by shooting an even-par 71 to tie with Roosevelt's Andrew Vandamme and Brecksville's Luke Kasmarcak. Hoyt was 5 under at the turn and tallied six birdies on the day. The Blue Devils (309) fell to third by a stroke on the fifth-player tie breaker after tying Stow. Freshman Isaac Morgan fired a 74, while Braedon Iacobacci (76), Liam Cooney (79), Vinny Coven (80) and Colton Sulima (86) rounded out the scoring. The Hornets (322) were seventh, with Noah Krietemeyer backing Hoyt. Wadsworth (328) got a 76 from John Brantley, a 78 from Ajay Hill and an 80 from Maxwell Haughn. The Grizzlies finished 10th out of 18 teams. In other events: Northeast Ohio Invitational AKRON — Gavin Jenkins fired an 8-over 79 to lead Cloverleaf (334) to finish fourth at this 24-team tournament. Zane Schreck and Austin Sustersic carded 82s to back Jenkins. Black River (428) finished 23rd behind Wade Mangan's 89. Girls Flamingo Frenzy PARMA — Cloverleaf senior Quinn Malarkey tied for sixth with a 2-over 74 at this 27-team invitational at Ridgewood Golf Course. Her efforts helped the Colts (381) take 16th, with MacLaine Bell carding 93 to back Malarkey. Medina (393) placed 19th with Honor Hlavna leading the way with a 92. Natalie Maybaum (97) and Olivia Bruckman (99) also broke 100. Highland (402) was 21st, as Anna Coleman shot 92 and Charlotte Chester added a 98.
