Christmas in July arrives at the Soprema Senior Center with car show

WADSWORTH — Wadsworth seniors enjoyed cars, crafts and community at the Soprema Senior Center's annual Christmas in July car show on Friday. Soprema Senior Center Director Lori Wilkinson said nearly 40 cars representing the 1920s to the 2020s participated in this year's car show. Visitors could also try homemade ice cream from the Wadsworth Area Historical Society, listen to live music from Wadsworth Middle School students and purchase crafts from senior artisans. "It is our patriotic Christmas in July car show and craft fair to celebrate our country's 250th birthday," she said. "Veterans are our VIP guests, so veterans are being treated to a free lunch today courtesy of the Wadsworth American Legion. The event also serves as the kickoff for the Wadsworth Older Adults Foundation's 12 days of Christmas fundraiser. Wilkinson said the foundation takes funding from sponsorships and buys gift cards from local businesses that are raffled off in the first two weeks of December. Funding generated from raffle tickets supports projects and initiatives at the Soprema Senior Center. "One of the (Wadsworth Older Adults Foundation's) most recent projects is our two brand new patios that are now on either side of our entrance," she said. "We have eight new benches, and they are being enjoyed today. All of the extra seating has been amazing." The Soprema Senior Center also recently had its 50th anniversary, and the organization is continuing to celebrate that milestone, Wilkinson said.
