Medina County Board of Elections certifies May ballot

MEDINA — The Medina County Board of Elections recently certified the May election results, and no race outcomes changed. The May primary election had about 26 percent voter turnout. More than 33,000 ballots were cast, which amounted to about 19,000 Republican ballots, around 13,000 Democratic ballots and approximately 1,000 nonpartisan ballots. Medina County Board of Elections Deputy Director Heather McDermott said the voter turnout in Medina County was similar to previous elections with approximately 24 percent voter turnout in May 2018 and about 25 percent voter turnout in May 2022. The following are the official election results for the contested races in Medina County: Brunswick Hills Township's police levy renewal passed with 1,025 people, or around 59 percent, voting for the levy, while 703 people, or 41 percent voted against the levy. Rick Dumperth won the nomination for Republican candidate for Medina County Auditor by receiving 9,564 votes, which is 54 percent of the vote, and incumbent Anthony Capretta received 46 percent of the vote with 8,146 votes. Sean Hutson won the nomination for Republican candidate for the 66th District in the Ohio House of Representatives by receiving 8,210 votes, or about 69 percent, while opponent Aidan Haggard received 3,768 votes, which amounted to about 31 percent of the vote. Wadsworth Schools income tax failed with 5,788 people, or approximately 70 percent, voting against the tax, while 2,520 people, or about 30 percent, voted for the tax. McDermott said there were no automatic recounts for this election in Medina County. The Medina County Board of Elections will now have an audit of the election at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the board's office in Medina. The following races will be audited: Governor and lieutenant governor candidate for the Republican party. Attorney general candidate for the Democratic Party.
