Brunswick Historical Society holds community yard sale

BRUNSWICK — Community members browsed and bought vintage items and household goods at Heritage Farm on Friday as part of a yard sale put on by the Brunswick Historical Society. Katie Georgekopoulos from the Brunswick Historical Society said people could pay for a spot to sell their unwanted items from their vehicle at the community yard sale. The historical society also has a variety of items for sale, such as home decor and appliances. The yard sale at 4613 Laurel Road in Brunswick will continue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Funding from the event goes toward supporting the historical society and the upkeep of its buildings. "We're calling it 'Treasure Hunt at the Farm' because you never know what treasure you might find today at the yard sale," Georgekopoulos said. The Brunswick Historical Society is also getting ready to kickoff its Sunday at the Farm event series soon. The event runs weekly from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays from June 14 through Oct. 4, except for July 5, due to the historical society's participation in Brunswick's Independence Day parade. "We have vendors of all kinds," Georgekopoulos said. "We have fresh produce, plants, people who crochet, artists who bring their stuff in, homemade jellies, jams and cookies. This year, I understand that one of our produce people accepts WIC coupons and the senior program this year, so we will have one vendor who does accept those on Sundays." Those who are interested in becoming vendors at Sunday at the Farm can visit brunswickhistory.com. She said the Brunswick Historical Society is also interested in having more people be a part of its organization. "I think we need to get the younger people involved because they need to know what their history is," Georgekopoulos said. "Being a bedroom community, as we were told back in the day, we have a lot of new people who weren't born and raised here, so it's kind of nice to let them see the history of where they live."
