Medina County celebrates older adults at Superhero Senior Day 2026

MEDINA — Medina County seniors socialized and learned more about the services available to them at this year's Senior Day on Wednesday at the Medina County Community Center. The event is hosted by Medina County Senior and Adult Services. Director Laura Toth described it as "an annual celebration for seniors in Medina County," and it is put on as part of Older Americans Month, which is recognized nationwide. "I thought it was extremely successful," she said. "We had over 600 people in attendance, which I thought, for the weather, was fantastic. Everybody enjoyed the band and the food, and people really enjoyed the vendors as well." About 85 vendors, comprising government agencies, nonprofits and businesses related to seniors, filled the community center, Toth said. This year's Senior Day had a superhero theme, so seniors dressed as their favorite or original character and went from table to table to learn more. "I think it's really important, first of all, to honor and celebrate the seniors that we have in Medina County. That would be the No. 1 reason for having Senior Day every year," she said. "It's also to have people walk through and see what services are available and what things they might be missing out on." Also, Medina County Senior and Adult Services will soon start up its Picnic on the Patio luncheons this summer, Toth said. Picnics start on June 5 and happen twice a month in June, July and August at 246 Northland Drive in Medina. "They are open to the public, so seniors and people of any age can come," she said. "We would encourage people to come, especially if they haven't been here before. Come check us out, see what we're all about and get involved in your community." "Anything we can do to promote that and get seniors out and about, talking about different services and socializing with each other is definitely a positive for all of us."
