Fano brothers relish opportunity to play together again, share tales of fighting, competing growing up

BEREA — Logan Fano estimated he's taken more than a thousand repetitions against younger brother Spencer on the football field."It's a lot. It's a lot," they said in unison.The ones Friday felt different.Spencer Fano, 21, was the left tackle on the first day of Browns rookie minicamp after being drafted No. 9 two weeks ago. Logan, 23, was signed as an undrafted rookie, agreeing to a deal with the Browns in the minutes after the draft. He lined up as the right defensive end in 11-on-11 drills.Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah won't play in 2026, missing second straight season, after being placed on PUP list"It's so crazy. It feels a lot like it was at Utah, but then I look and see we have frickin' Browns jerseys on," Spencer said while standing next to Logan, referring to their time together as teammates in college. "It's so cool. It's so cool."Obviously I'm freaking ecstatic. There's nothing other than him being drafted here that I would have wanted more. I'm just so excited to be here with my brother."The smiles were wide as they talked. The reaction to Logan signing with the Browns was more emotional."The whole family was crying," Spencer said.The brothers have stories about their on-field battles. They have more stories about the brotherly competitions that dominated their lives growing up in Spanish Fork, Utah.Zone Coverage Podcast"Now that we're adults, we're a little bit better about not fist-fighting at the end, but it's been like that our whole lives, from arguing in the back of the car to playing basketball, wrestling, you name it, we competed at everything," Logan said."All through high school there was never a day that we'd not fight," Spencer said. "We fought every single day in high school. And I'm talking about being competitive, even video games. I would wake up in the middle of the morning, Logan's practicing a video game in order to beat me and I would do the same thing. So, yeah, just everything that we've done, it's been to compete against each other."As the big brother, Logan watched Spencer develop into "the most athletic tackle I've ever seen." Along the way, Logan stopped dominating the matchup on the field."In high school we would go one-on-one two times," Logan said. "And so as the season started, I would beat Spencer every single time because that's little bro, you know what I mean? But the season starts to progress, starts to progress. Some days I would win every rep, some days Spencer would win a rep, then I would win one, but I'd always win one."And so we got to the last week, we're going to the state championship game and Spencer beats me on the first one-on-one rep. Oh, what the heck? But my head coach is jawing at me. He's like, 'Come on, Lo, what's up? He's the real big bro.' I'm like, OK, OK, I'm going to get him on this one. Go again, he beats me again. So that's the first time Spence beat me at both one-on-one reps. I was like, 'Man, that looks embarrassing.' But not anymore because, I mean, look at what he's done."Former coaches call KC Concepcion a 'thermostat guy' with 'It factor' who will make impact on BrownsSpencer filled in the missing piece."The story after that is that we went to a run drill and he's the No. 1 guy, like 'keep everybody up,'" he said. "That period, he pulled me down and started swinging on me.""I try to keep that part out," Logan said.The Browns got Spencer (6-foot-6, 315 pounds) at No. 9 after trading down three spots to acquire third- and fifth-round picks. He was the first offensive lineman drafted, and the Browns declared immediately he'd be their left tackle. He played left tackle as a freshman at Utah before moving to the right side for his final two years."There's some guys, they are really strong but they're not that fast, or they're really fast but they're kind of lightweight. Spence is a mix of everything," Logan said. "Good feet, good hands, he's strong and it makes it hard for guys like me, fast guys like me, to try to get around him. So I've got to find different ways to make it work."Logan (6-4, 252) started his career at BYU before transferring to Utah in 2023 for Spencer's freshman season. Logan played 11 games in 2025 with 44 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss.He was disappointed he didn't get drafted but had a wonderful distraction."Obviously I am the most lucky older brother in the world because you guys got to meet Spence, talk to him a little bit. Just the kind of person he is and the player he is," Logan said. "I think that whole weekend I was, even though I didn't get drafted, I was so happy that my brother was the first O-lineman, first Polynesian, all these things and it couldn't have happened to a better person."But with me going undrafted, my story and my football career has had so much adversity that I just thought that you know what, it's perfect for me to go undrafted. It just adds another chapter to my story of overcoming adversity. So I'm excited for this chance."He missed significant time in college with two torn anterior cruciate ligaments in the right knee and one in the left.If he can stay healthy, there's an opportunity to win a roster spot. The Browns have NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire but uncertainty behind them at end. They planned to sign veteran free agent A.J. Epenesa, but he failed his physical.Spencer will learn from Garrett by facing him in practice. Logan will benefit by going behind him in drills and sharing a meeting room."There's no better situation I could ask for for myself than to have a chance to learn from probably the best of all time, and that's something I'm not going to take for granted and I'm excited for that opportunity," he said.The transition to the NFL can be tough for rookies. Having a brother along for the ride makes it feel like home."You hear all these stories of how dudes will start to struggle because they feel like they're alone," Spencer said. "It's hard to feel alone with the dude that I've lived with my entire life. Now he's just a few doors down in the hotel. So it's been awesome."Coach Todd Monken looked up from his interview and saw the Fanos talking. As much as Monken appreciated the special situation, he knew others do more."It's awesome for their parents," he said.
