Highland High School student of the month The Highland Local School District announced that Delaney Johnson was named Highland High School student of the month for April. Advanced Placement Spanish teacher Tina McKeen nominated Johnson for this recognition and described her as "diligent, friendly, engaged, dedicated and intelligent — a true thinker." Johnson is a member of the symphonic orchestra and played violin in the pit orchestra in "Hadestown: Teen Edition" and "Newsies." She is also involved in National Honor Society, Volunteer Opportunities for Teens and Peer Leaders. After graduation, she plans to attend Brigham Young University to major in elementary education. Medina County Historical Society open houses The Medina County Historical Society will have an open house on Sunday. New this year, both museums are now open on the same day. Stop by on the second Sunday of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the John Smart House Museum at 206 N. Elmwood Ave. and the McDowell-Phillips House Museum at 205 S. Prospect St. Private tours are available. The new exhibit at the John Smart House is "The History of Medicine in Medina County," which features medical tools, a historic timeline and video interviews. The suggested donation at the John Smart House is $5. At the McDowell-Phillips House, the cost is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for youth aged seven to 17, and children under seven are free. Hydrant flushing in Medina The City of Medina Water Department will flush fire hydrants on Mondays through Fridays in July. If hydrant flushing proceeds ahead of the weekly schedule, crews may proceed to the next week's streets. If so, those streets will be marked with signage to indicate hydrant flushing.
