Edwin Griffin

Edwin Griffin, formerly of Westfield Center, died peacefully Friday, March 27, 2026 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was 99 years old. Ed was born in Nemacolin, Pennsylvania in 1926. During his childhood, Ed and his family moved around to small mining towns in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio while his father was employed as a mining engineer. After high school, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a riflery training instructor in Texas as he was too young to be deployed. After the war, he attended Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University) where he graduated in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ed met his wife, Marjorie, in New York City, where they both worked for Babcock & Wilcox. Ed worked at Babcock & Wilcox for 31 years and held various leadership roles including Senior Vice President of the Power Generation Group when he retired. After retirement, Ed formed a consulting group with a few recently retired former colleagues. This tight-knit group of retired friends stayed busy working for another twenty plus years assisting companies with power plant efficiency. Throughout his career, Ed was recognized for his wisdom and expertise as an engineer and for his integrity and kindness. Ed was married to Marjorie for 71 years, until her death in 2024. He is survived by their five children: Anne; David and his wife, Laurie; John and his wife, Jenny; Liza and her husband, Eric; Tara and her husband, Kevin. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Marjorie, Madeline, Max; Ryan, Danny, Mike; David, Molly, Katie; Griff, Andy, Johnny, Henry; Thomas and Elena; and by eight great-grandchildren. Ed was predeceased by his son-in-law, Jay; his sister, Elizabeth Ann; and brother, Herman. Ed enjoyed traveling through his work and with Marjorie and their family, and developed longstanding friendships around the world. He read widely and enjoyed keeping up with current events and news. Late in his life, Ed was still making new friends as well as keeping close ties with his children and grandchildren.
