Brunswick police holds Coffee with a Cop event at Kelly's Cafe

BRUNSWICK — Patrons of Kelly's Cafe in Brunswick shared crepes, coffee and conversation with officers from the Brunswick Division of Police on Thursday morning. Throughout the event, members of the department, including Police Chief Robert Safran, Lt. Steve Hoover, Sgt. Chris Scafidi and Sgt. Holub stopped by Kelly's Cafe. "This is one of several community engagement events that we do," Safran said. "We've done coffee with a cop events before. We have a relationship with (owner) Kelly (Horter) and the cafe here itself, so we thought why not have it here and spend a couple hours and talk to people?" It is important for Brunswick residents to have the opportunity to engage with police in this manner, Safran said. Residents can bring up concerns they have within the community or have casual conversation with the officers. "We don't want every contact to be in a negative setting," he said. "That's why we're really engaged in the community, and we want people to see police officers as who they are: regular people."
