City of Brunswick gives update on business construction within the city

BRUNSWICK — Construction on existing businesses within the city is progressing as the weather gets warmer. James Lenahan, the city's newest chief building official, provided an update from his department to Brunswick City Council on Monday. The largest construction project within the city is Brunswick High School, which Lenahan said is moving along well. Areas like the gym, weight room and art room are nearing completion while steel is being erected in the auditorium space. The veneer of Brunswick High School will start being placed on the southwest corner. Lenahan said the high school is set to open in 2027, and he believes construction is on track to meet that date. "The union professionals are doing not just an adequate job, but an absolutely beautiful job," he said. "I'm looking at things before they finish up. They care about how all the pipes are absolutely horizontal and perfect. The construction is going along very well." Lenahan also provided an update on Donut Land's new facility at the former Rite Aid building at 3871 Center Road, which he said is "progressing very well." "They have all the walls up there," he said. "They're sanding drywall (on Monday) and painting (on Tuesday). They're talking about moving in the first or second week of June, so look forward to that." 7 Brew is still working on a time-limited certificate of occupancy, Lenahan said. The coffee shop has done road repair, but work still needs to be done on its sewer connection. "We want to keep our partnership with the Medina (County) sanitary (engineers) up, so I'm holding their feet to the fire on that," he said. "Their landscaping is done, except for in the back, around the pond area, so that's going along very well." Paving projects are also happening at Brunswick Auto Mart and in front of Scene 75, Lenahan said. Meanwhile, the new Drug Mart that is set to open on West 130th Street is ready to have a permit but is still waiting on engineering approval.
