Medina Cars and Coffee event fuels community spirit and charity support

MEDINA — Classic and modern cars, raffles and community fundraising brought Medina residents together on Sunday for a seasonal Cars and Coffee event that has grown into a local tradition. The event, which is held four times throughout the year, features a casual "cruise-in" format where car owners display their vehicles while attendees socialize and support the community through raffles and games. Kurt, a participant attending for his third year, showcased his silver 1974 Lotus, which he said he has owned since it was new. "I'm the original owner, and it still runs fine. It leaks a little oil, but it's British," he said. The event has grown significantly. What began as a one-time gathering in 2018 has expanded into a recurring series held four times each season, usually starting in April and continuing every other month through October. In addition to showcasing vehicles, the event raises money for local charities through raffles, 50/50 drawings and games. Groups in past years that the event has supported include The Medina Historical Society, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and veterans organizations, according to Charles Clark of Main Street Medina. "We pick a local charity each time, and the raffle and 50/50 money goes to them. We got a little over $400 to the historical society last October," Clark said. Upcoming events will include a Father's Day gathering, which is expected to draw between 250 and 300 cars, making it one of the largest. "That one's a big deal because if it's nice out, everybody comes, families, dads, people just looking to have fun," he said. A separate car show is also planned this summer near the town square. On July 5, a show will include judged entries and trophies, with proceeds benefiting the Medina Historical Society. The continued success of Cars and Coffee reflects a strong interest within the community.
