High school track: Cloverleaf boys, girls fall to Woodridge in dual meet

PENINSULA — The Cloverleaf track and field teams both fell to Woodridge on Tuesday in a Metro Athletic Conference dual, but the Colts showed glimpses of success against one of the better teams in the area. Complete results were supposed to be posted on athletic.net, but the website was down at The Gazette's E-Edition deadline. The Cloverleaf girls won four individual events — two in the hurdles and two in the field. In the 300-meter hurdles, Julia Reusch won with a time of 51.57 seconds, while Kiersyn Berry was second at 52.07. This came after Berry also won the 100s in a season-best 17.96. "It just went really well," Berry said. "That race was probably the best I've had this season." Over on the field, Abby Reinhardt took first in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 1.75 inches, while Amelia Ryncarz won the shot put with a 32-8. A 29-0 was good enough for Berkeley Craddock to finish third. Kayla Shook finished second in the 200 and 400 and was on the 4x100 relay that finished second along with Berry, Adriana Akers and Taylor Munchick. Shook barely had time to catch her breath after the 4x1 before she was on the starting blocks for the 400, something unique to her. "It was definitely different because I don't ever really go from a 100 right into a 400," she said. "But it's good for me to kind of be tired so later in the season, when I do have time to catch my breath, I'll be ready and more prepared. My times aren't quite where I want to be, but I just know that little tweaks in my races, I can fix it up and get it where I want it." The Colts had four other runner-up finishes with Munchick in the 100 (13.32), Leah Monhemius in the 3,200 (12:54.00), Berry in the 300 hurdles (52.07) and Addison Rehoe in the discus (95-6). On the boys side, the Colts picked up two individual wins, with Ethan Gray clocking 53.68 in the 400 and Grady Pamer soaring 20-5 in the long jump. In the 400, Gray trailed Woodridge's Aiden Smith entering the final 100, but picked up his pace and passed Smith down the backstretch to win by 0.36 seconds. "I just knew I had a lot more to give, and I didn't want to end the race in second (place)," Gray said. "That last 100 meters was about emptying the tank." Gray also teamed with Matthew Jenkins, Bryce Neil and Caleb Neville to win the 4x4 in 3:42.03, defeating the second-place Colts team of Lincoln Baltic, Gavin Forbes, Reilley Maloney and Caleb Burke. Neville had second-place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200. "It feels good," he said. "It's always great to run against Woodridge because it's the best competition we are going to get."
