Brunswick elementary students named regional winners in Ohio art exhibition First-grade students from Huntington Elementary School were named regional winners in the inaugural 2026 Ohio Juried Exhibition of Student Art, which is sponsored by the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Faith Bartoul, Lindsey Beljin and Hailey Potts were selected from more than 8,000 student entries across Ohio. Their artwork was created with cut construction paper, tissue paper, sheet music, transparency film, permanent marker and acrylic paint. Brunswick art teacher Erin Kraly served as one of 10 regional judges for the competition, though she did not evaluate submissions from the Brunswick region to ensure fairness. The students will be honored at an awards ceremony on May 2 at the McCoy Center for the Performing Arts in New Albany. Each student will receive a certificate of merit and a $25 cash prize. Medina County students recognized in suicide prevention contest The Medina County Coalition for Suicide Prevention announced the winners of its annual student contest, which is designed to raise awareness about suicide prevention and promote mental health education among youth. The contest featured two categories: a high school public service announcement contest and a middle school poster contest. The winners of the public service announcement contest are as follows: First place is "Assumptions" by junior Alistair McNeill and senior Marcas Gallagher from Medina High School. Second place is "Suicide Affects Everyone" by Syndey Schorr, Cain Hoover, and Alycen Gacek who are in 11th and 12th grade at Medina High School. The winners of the poster contest are as follows: First place is "Suicide Prevention" by eighth grader Mallory Gabor from Wadsworth Middle School. Second place is "Together We Are One" by sixth grader Isaac Watson from Wadsworth Intermediate School. First and second place winners will be recognized and awarded at the SHARE breakfast on Friday at Williams on the Lake in Medina. Shangri La Farm Sanctuary joins global "Sanctuary Day" celebration Shangri La Farm Sanctuary, a nonprofit in Litchfield, announced that it will take part in Sanctuary Day on Friday. It is an international observance to honor the work of farm animal sanctuaries around the world. The event coincides with the 40th anniversary of Farm Sanctuary, which is a farm animal sanctuary and advocacy organization. By joining Sanctuary Day, Shangri La Farm Sanctuary will be included in a public list shared by Farm Sanctuary to help raise awareness, attract volunteers and strengthen local support for sanctuary work.
