Water main construction underway on Center Road in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK — Construction has begun to replace the water main on a section of state Route 303 near Neura Park in Brunswick. Brunswick Service Director Paul Magovac said the project comprises replacing the waterline and everything above it from 400 feet west of Troon Avenue to Garfield Avenue. The city received a grant from Cleveland Water for the project. "(Cleveland Water) paid us up front for us to do this job," he said. "Again, they are only paying for the waterline replacement and everything above it. We are going to resurface that area, and that is being paid for by the city of Brunswick." When applying for the grant, the city said Center Road from Pearl Road west to the city corporation line has a high amount of broken lines, Magovac said. "(Cleveland Water) did the research," he said. "They looked at their breakage sheet to find out where the most breaks were. They said, 'We will give you X amount of dollars to replace it from here to here.'" The end goal of the project is to hopefully eliminate breakages in the area, Magovac said. "Traffic is being maintained by flaggers, so expect delays," he said. "If you don't want to be delayed, you might have to look for an alternative route during working time (during the day)." In October, Brunswick City Council passed a resolution for the city to enter into an agreement with HM Miller Construction Co. for the Center Road water main replacement project in an amount not to exceed $630,000. A separate resolution was also passed for the city to enter into an agreement with Specialized Construction Inc. to resurface the same section of road once the water main has been replaced.
