Wadsworth water supply meets all safety standards in 2025 report

WADSWORTH — The City of Wadsworth's 2025 Consumer Confidence Report shows that the city's drinking water system meets all state and federal standards. The report shows that Wadsworth's water supply comes from 12 groundwater wells, with 11 within the city and one in Chippewa Township. Seven of the groundwater wells are deep rock wells with a low risk of contamination. The other five are sand and gravel wells, which are higher risk due to nearby land issues. Routine monitoring throughout 2025 confirmed water quality remained within acceptable limits. Testing included daily checks, and required sampling for bacteria, nitrates, metals, and disinfection byproducts. There were 300 bacterial samples analyzed, with 47 additional samples tied to maintenance or customer concerns. Lead and copper testing was conducted in 120 homes, and no samples exceeding federal action levels were found. Total trihalomethanes, which are disinfection byproducts, measured 38.9 parts per billion, which is below the 80 parts per billion limit. Fluoride levels averaged 1.03 parts per million, which is within acceptable levels. According to the report, substances like chlorine and fluoride are added during treatment to control microbes and support dental health. It is also mentioned that drinking water may contain small amounts of contaminants, but they do not pose any health risks at low levels. The report also emphasized that lead exposure usually comes from the plumbing in homes, and not the water system itself. If water is sitting, residents should flush taps before use.
