Brunswick to begin spring paving projects in city parks

BRUNSWICK — The city will soon be undergoing paving projects in a few of its parks as warmer weather arrives. Cardinal Asphalt Paving will begin work on Monday. The affected locations are North Park off Grafton Road, Mooney Park off Windsor Drive and Hopkins Park off Diana Drive and Laurel Road. "This infrastructure project is part of the city's ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality recreational facilities for our residents," the city stated in a media release. Construction is anticipated to be finished by May 22; however, work may be finished sooner depending on the weather conditions. Construction crews will work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The city stated that it established the following to minimize disruption of community recreation: Parks will remain open for activities during the evening hours and on weekends. At this time, no work on weekends is anticipated. Full park closures will only happen during the active paving of asphalt and drying time. Construction signs will be posted at all affected park entrances, and flaggers may be present to direct traffic as needed. Multiple crews may be working at different park locations at the same time to expedite the project. Brunswick City Council passed a resolution to enter into an agreement with Cardinal Asphalt Company in an amount not to exceed $463,000 for the project during its Feb. 9 meeting. Funding was to come out of the $1.2 million that was set aside for park improvements after the city's parks master plan was finalized.
