Brunswick fire-medic thanked for 26 years of service to the department ahead of retirement

BRUNSWICK — The city recognized firefighter-medic Paul Morselli for his more than two decades of service to the department during a Brunswick City Council meeting on March 23 ahead of his retirement today. Morselli joined the Brunswick Division of Fire in 2000 as a part-time member and transitioned to full-time service in 2001. Fire Chief Greg Glauner said Morselli has filled just about every role in the department and has served as an "excellent firefighter" and an "outstanding medic." "Much of what you see in the Brunswick Division of Fire has to do with his hard work and his sacrifice and tweaking things and making them work the way they do today," he said. Morselli said he has seen the evolution of the fire department and the growth of the city during his tenure at the Brunswick Division of Fire. He also thanked the public for helping to build the city's new fire station. "It's really nice to see the city we have with the safety forces and so much is built up," he said. "People want to come to Brunswick now. It's really, really nice." Glauner described Morselli as the "consummate senior man" at the department who imparts his knowledge to younger members. "It's not just a title. He teaches by example," he said. "He shows that by the way he leads into the fires and into the medic runs. He's first to do housework in the morning. He cares a lot about every one of us." Outside of his time at the fire department, Morselli was involved in a union, worked with Aluminum Cans for Burned Children and collected money for muscular dystrophy and cancer organizations, Glauner said. "Nothing is ever for himself," he said. "It's always for the good of the organization and to help out his brothers." Morselli was named firefighter of the year for the Brunswick Division of Fire in 2017 and in 2024. Glauner said Morselli will always be considered a friend to the department, the city and the residents of Brunswick. "He is leaving the way he wants to go," he said.
