Brunswick students win awards in statewide Deaf-themed art contest Brunswick Schools students won awards at the sixth annual Deaf-themed art contest on March 8 in Columbus. The following Brunswick students were recognized: Ava Biggs, of Huntington, won first place in the kindergarten through third grade division. Niko Parsons, of Kidder, won second place in the kindergarten through third grade division. Emersyn Korecky, of Huntington, won second place in the third grade through fifth grade division. Mila Parsons, of Brunswick Middle School, won second place in the sixth grade through eighth grade division. The statewide contest challenges kindergarten through 12th grade students to create original artwork inspired by deaf culture, history, experiences, role models and visual communication. Entries are grouped by grade level, with winners selected in each category. The contest is put on by Ohio Deaf Friends of the Library in partnership with Ohio Hands & Voices and Advocates for Kids. Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities offers scholarship The Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities is offering a scholarship opportunity for local Medina County high school students. There is a single $1,500 scholarship this year. The scholarship was founded to recognize and support young people who are considering a career that may serve individuals with developmental disabilities. Applicants must be a current Medina County high school senior and have been accepted into an accredited program in a field which may provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Applicants must also demonstrate involvement in, or have provided services to, individuals with developmental disabilities through activities like Special Olympics, classroom activities, volunteering or job shadowing. Interested students must complete and submit a donor scholarship application form before Tuesday to be considered. Forms are available by calling (330) 725-7751 ext. 273 or at mcbdd.org. Local students recognized for academic achievement Ben Emerson, of Hinckley, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2025 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Lukas Graber of Medina, made the dean's list for the fall 2025 semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Road construction projects in Medina County Interstate 71 from state Route 18 to the Cuyahoga County line will have single-lane closures for final project work. Crews will be completing final smoothness grinding and final striping work, and traffic will be maintained by barrels. The estimated completion date is in June. Interstate 271 southbound, east of state Route 94, will have daily right lane closures for embankment repairs. Traffic will be maintained by barrels. May is the estimated completion date.
