Boys state basketball: Cincinnati Wyoming crushes Glenville

Cincinnati Wyoming blew through a gauntlet to capture its first state title in boys basketball, crushing Glenville 73-48 in the Division IV game Friday at University of Dayton Arena. The Cowboys (26-2) defeated defending champion Zanesville Maysville in the semifinals Thursday, then roared to a 16-5 lead after one quarter against the defending runner-up Tarblooders (19-10) and never looked back. Wyoming shot a sizzling 31-for-52 (.596) from the floor and was led by a pair of 20-point double-doubles. Kellen Wiley flirted with a triple-double en route to 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, while Carlyle Billingsley added 20 and 12. Glenville got 19 points from Arvell Nelson Sr. and 13 from Theodore Castro but struggled to find an offensive rhythm all evening. The Tarblooders made only 17-of-59 field goals (.288), including 8-of-29 3-pointers (.276) and were outscored by a whopping 56-14 in the paint. In another game Trotwood Madison 48, Steubenville 47 Darius Dennis drilled a jumper with nine seconds remaining, giving the Rams (23-4) a thrilling victory over the Big Red (26-2) in the D-III title game. Dennis finished with a team-high 17 points and 14 rebounds and got support from Je'Carious Reaves (10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) and Justyce Taylor (9, 6). Steubenville countered with a game-high 22 points from Cole Bowers and 16 from Santonio Haney. The Big Red had taken a 47-46 lead on a free throw by Haney with 22 seconds to go.
