Brunswick to repair asphalt in Wards 3 and 4 and fix concrete in Wards 1 and 2

BRUNSWICK — The city is looking to soon repair more of its neighborhood streets through its asphalt program and concrete program. Brunswick City Council passed a resolution on Tuesday authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement with Set in Stone Contracting LLC for an amount not to exceed approximately $1.3 million for the city's 2026 asphalt program. Construction is anticipated to start in April, weather permitting, with work expected to last around 90 days. "We have $2 million total for construction for our budget, so we'd like to spend the $1.3 (million) on asphalt, and the rest will go to the concrete program," City Engineer Jenny Zoldak said. The asphalt program will take place in Wards 3 and 4 this year, with work expected for the following streets: Cherry Lane Claridge Oval Crestway Oval Gary Boulevard Landon Lane Starview Drive Venus Drive Westchester Drive Portions of Randall Drive, Rose Drive and Sheri Drive. "We bid the work on Crestway Oval as an alternate to see how our bids would come in, hoping that we would be able to add it into the project and still be under our total budget that we have for the road program," Zoldak said. "The bids came in very favorable." Council also passed a motion to allow the city to advertise for public bids for the 2026 concrete program on Tuesday. The project will repair various neighborhood streets in Wards 1 and 2 and will include catch basin repairs. "Our preliminary construction cost estimate is not to exceed $600,000," Zoldak said. "We'd like to go to bid probably in the end of March, and then we would be looking at awarding it toward the end of April. Then, construction would follow." A motion was also passed that authorizes the city to apply for funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation's Transportation Improvement District program to rehabilitate North Industrial Parkway. It is phase two of the project, with construction proposed to start in 2027. "We did phase one of the project with the same funding, so this would be the same area, north of Center (Road) on North Industrial (Parkway) all the way up to Nationwide Parkway and past," Zoldak said. "The funding would be for $500,000 in (Transportation Improvement District) funding, and the remainder would be a local match."
