Medina Schools to host third annual "Portrait to Practice" event Medina Schools will host its third annual "Portrait to Practice" event from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Medina High School at 777 E. Union St. The evening will feature student presentations at all grade levels. Students will share projects and experiences that reflect the district's "Portrait of a Bee" framework, which emphasizes character, collaboration, communication, responsible decision-making, innovation and lifelong learning. The event is free and open to the public. Local student awarded Ohio Soybean Council Foundation scholarship The Ohio Soybean Council Foundation announced that Chloee Howard, of Spencer, was awarded the $5,000 Bhima Vijayendran scholarship for the 2026-27 academic year. The annual scholarship is named in honor of a Battelle research scientist who made contributions to the soybean industry. Howard is a junior at the Ohio State University studying agricultural engineering. Medina County Arts Council announces renamed scholarship program for graduating seniors active in the arts The Medina County Arts Council announced that its trustees will award multiple onetime scholarships for a combined total of $3,000 to graduating seniors of the Class of 2026 who have been actively involved in the arts. Last year, the scholarship program was officially renamed the Nancy Sprowls MCAC Student Scholarship, in honor of founding member Nancy Sprowls. The fund was established by the Sprowls family to recognize her commitment to arts education and her foundational role in building the Medina County Arts Council. Applications will be accepted through Sunday from graduating seniors residing in Medina County who have been actively involved in the arts during high school. Eligible disciplines include, but are not limited to, music, visual art, theater, dance and creative writing. Applicants must declare a major in an arts-related field. While a transcript is required, no minimum grade point average is required for eligibility. Scholarship funds may be used toward tuition, books and other school supplies.
