Medina County Home and Garden Show celebrates America 250

MEDINA — Homeowners met with more than 100 service providers firsthand to learn about the home improvements that are available to them at this year's Medina County Home and Garden Show. The 39th annual Medina County Home and Garden Show took place on Saturday and Sunday at the Medina County Community Center. There were about 140 vendors who are experts in topics like landscaping, pools, fencing, flooring, windows, heating and cooling, tree care, patios and decks. "(The home and garden show) showcases our local home and garden style businesses, some big, some small and mostly local," show promoter Linda Loveless said. "It gives them an opportunity to expand and be successful in their business." This year's show was themed to commemorate the United States' 250th birthday, she said. The main garden featured patriotic decorations like a large wooden flag, which was surrounded by red, white and blue flowers. There were also demonstrations of colonial crafts in the garden like spinning and weaving, pottery making and working with leather. "John Burke, our Medina County treasurer who impersonates historical figures, was here as Col. James Smith, who was a colonel in the Revolutionary War," Loveless said. "We also had Kathy Kraus here talking about the women of the Revolutionary War era who were involved in the war in some way." Presenters shared their knowledge with guests on topics like cooking, Ohio's native plants, household plants that can be toxic for cats, spring perennials and composting. Attendees could also purchase fresh-cut flowers from Rooted in Medina or ask master gardener volunteers their gardening questions. "It went well," Loveless said. "We had all of our spaces filled, and the people attending just seemed to be enjoying it and having a good time. That's all I'm looking for in planning it."
