Maykenzie Lahoski named Highland High School student of the month Highland Schools announced that Maykenzie Lahoski was named Highland High School student of the month for January. She was nominated by school counselor Julianna Lakins for exemplifying leadership and school spirit through her involvement in extracurriculars. Lahoski participates in marching band, cross country and track while serving her peers as a member of student council and student of the month committee. Outside of school, she manages a job at McDonald's. She is also a volunteer with both the Sharon United Methodist Church and the Sharon Township Fire Department. After high school, Lahoski would like to attend the University of Cincinnati. She is the daughter of Heather and David Lahoski of Sharon Township. 68th Medina County Solo and Ensemble Festival This year's Medina County Solo and Ensemble Festival was held on Feb. 7 at Buckeye High School, which hosted more than 280 students who took part in 159 events. Buckeye High School choir director Pam Haberkorn and Buckeye Junior High School choir director Alison MacDonald served as festival coordinators. Ohio Music Education Association qualified adjudicators gave performance ratings and verbal comments to students participating in the event. "Whether in the classroom, on the field, or on the stage, Medina County students demonstrate amazing talents every year," Medina County ESC Superintendent Robert Hlasko said. "The time and dedication these students and their directors put into their craft is beyond comprehension." Local students named to dean's list at University of Tampa for fall 2025 semester The following Medina County students were named to the University of Tampa's dean's list for the fall 2025 semester: Sylvie Hipp, of Seville, is a sophomore majoring in psychology. Collin Kavulic, of Brunswick, is a freshman majoring in finance. Kayla Moner, of Brunswick, is a senior majoring in marketing. Alexa Rundle, of Valley City, is a junior majoring in biology. Nolia Sanders, of Brunswick, is a senior majoring in allied health. Carter Shamis, of Medina. is a sophomore majoring in international business and entrepreneurship. Brianna Torres, of Brunswick, is a junior majoring in psychology.
