Walter A. Zeigler

Walter Archie Zeigler, 94, of Spencer, Ohio, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 17, 2026. He was born June 10, 1931, to the late George and Blanche (Robinson) Zeigler on his family's farm in River Corners. Walt grew up doing chores before school, working at the sugar bush, and learning lessons that shaped his life; work hard, be honest, and do what's right. A 1949 Salutatorian and Class President of Spencer High School, Walter enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean War until 1954, including time in Japan. On August 27, 1955, he married Bernadette (Stutz), his wife for nearly 38 cherished years. In 2002, he married Beverly (Solecki), his soul mate in life's later chapters. Walter built homes as a carpenter before becoming a longtime Nationwide Insurance Agent. His small white office on the corner of West and South Main became a Spencer landmark. He also served as Township Clerk, part-time mail carrier, Spencer KP Lodge member, and Commander of Medina and Spencer American Legion Posts. He was honored as Spencer Citizen of the Year in 2021. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Timothy (Marlene) Zeigler and Tina Tucker; stepchildren, John (Debra Sue) Solecki, Jodie (Chance) Donaldson, and Becky Huff; along with eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernadette; daughter, Cheryl Ehrle; and his sisters, Lois Simmerman and Doris Wicks. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Spencer United Methodist Church, with a memorial service and military honors immediately following. Rev. Robert Ludwig will officiate. A private burial will take place at Spencer Cemetery at a later date.
