College notes: Brunswick native Makenna Mincey repeats as conference diver of the year at Baldwin Wallace

Two seasons, two Ohio Athletic Conference Diver of the Year Awards for Makenna Mincey of Baldwin Wallace. The Brunswick native and Magnificat High graduate earned her second straight award at the OAC Championships, where the Yellow Jackets finished second. Mincey started the meet by winning the 3-meter dive with a career-best 484.95 points. The next day, she backed it up with the 1-meter title with a OAC-record 520.10 points. It was the second straight year Mincey has stood atop the podium in the 1-meter event and the first in the 3-meter after finishing as the runner-up as a freshman. Men's basketball Walsh sophomore Quinn Barnett (Brunswick) has scored in double figures in seven straight games after posting 13 points in a win over Thomas More, 20 in a win over Kentucky Wesleyan, 13 in a win over Great Lake Christian and 20 in a win over Cedarville. Women's basketball Kent State sophomore Journey Hildebrand (Brunswick) has seen her minutes go up and, in turn, her production. She scored a season-high 17 points against Appalachian State, nine against Ohio and then 14 against Northern Illinois. Northwood (Mich.) redshirt sophomore Lea Holmes (Brunswick) stretched her double-figure scoring streak to nine in wins over Findlay (13 points), Cedarville (17) and Kentucky Wesleyan (22). Coastal Carolina freshman Olivia Klanac (Medina) scored a career-high 20 points and knocked down three 3-pointers in a 65-64 win over Appalachian State. She hit three free throws down the stretch to ice the game. Klanac also scored 12 points in a loss to Old Dominion. Men's wrestling Kent State 165-pound junior Chris Earnest (Wadsworth) picked up a win against Central Michigan and was the only victory for the Golden Flashes in a loss to Lock Haven (Pa.). l Iowa Central Community College sophomore Kaden King (Buckeye) was named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week after winning the 165 title at the North Central District Championship. The win qualified King for the NJCAA National Championships, which begin March 7. Men's track and field Akron sophomore Isaac Baltic (Highland) was named Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week after his career-best 17 feet, 4.50 inches won the pole vault at the Youngstown State Last Chance Invitational. Ashland sophomore Andrew Gall (Brunswick) ran a time of 1:57.14 to take home second place in the 800-meter run at the Ashland Collegiate Tune-up. Baldwin Wallace sophomore Christian Orgel (Black River) took first place out of 18 runners in the 800 at the Ohio Wesleyan Open. Akron senior Owen Wendl (Highland) had a career-best 60-8 to win the shot put at the Akron Invitational, the second-best throw in Zips indoor history. Men's swimming and diving Ohio Northern junior Nathan Herbert (Highland) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships to earn All-OAC. He also earned All-OAC with a third-place finish in the 1,650 free and was a part of the third-place 800 free relay. Senior Aiden Magoolaghan (Highland) was a member of the Ohio Northern 200 medley relay that finished second at the OAC Championships with a school-record 1:30.99. Women's swimming and diving Senior Isabelle Parr and freshman Chloe Parr (Brunswick) helped Mount Union take the top spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships while earning All-OAC honors. The sisters were on the 400 free relay that took first, while Isabelle finished second in the 100 free.
