Medina County under winter weather advisory for Monday

Medina County is one of several counties under a winter weather advisory today, according to the National Weather Service Cleveland Office. The National Weather Service provided an update on the winter storm as part of a briefing on 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Snow is anticipated to increase in intensity and peak this morning. Several inches of snow are expected where there are snow bands, which may lead to a hazardous commute this morning. Northwest wind gusts of 30 to 35 miles per hour today may also lead to reduced visibility due to blowing snow, further contributing to poor travel conditions. Medina County is under a winter weather advisory starting Sunday evening and lasting until 1 a.m. Tuesday. Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Summit counties are under a winter weather advisory for the same period. Between two and six inches of snow are estimated to fall in the winter weather advisory area with more snowfall amounts possible on higher terrain. Snow is anticipated to fall over a 24- to 36-hour timeframe. As of the 2:30 p.m. Sunday forecast, Medina was anticipated to see the greatest snowfall between Sunday evening and early this morning with snowfall tapering off throughout the day today. The National Weather Service is encouraging commuters to alter plans if needed and monitor the forecast at weather.gov/cle for updated information. The National Weather Service also provided the following ice and snow safety tips for driving in winter weather: Clean off vehicles before driving, since flying snow from cars can cause accidents. Drive slow and do not use cruise control because roads can be slick, even if they just look wet. Leave extra distance between vehicles and stay especially far away from snow plows.
