Wadsworth resident escape house fire At 2:19 a.m. Friday, the Wadsworth Emergency Dispatch Center received a call from a resident reporting a fire in her home. While fire and police units were on the way, the caller informed the dispatcher that she was unable to exit. Wadsworth police forced entry into her home and encountered heavy smoke but were able to quickly locate the resident and pull her to safety. She was treated on scene by EMS and transported to a local hospital. The following agencies assisted in extinguishing the fire: Norton Fire Department Rittman Fire Department Seville-Guilford Fire Department Sharon Township Fire Department The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Fire Chief Bob Lindner did not respond to a request for comment Sunday afternoon. Brunswick High health care expo A health care expo will take place at Brunswick High School 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday during parent-teacher conferences. The event is focused on exposing students and families to the full spectrum of healthcare careers. Poetry project at Medina County District Library The Medina County District Library's poetry project will run through February. Winners from each category will be published in miniature books, which will be available at all Medina County District Library locations during National Library Week from April 19-25. Those who are interested can enter original poems of 30 lines or fewer at any location or email entries to poetryproject@mcdl.info. Art must be in .jpg or .png format and 300 ppi. Entries should include the title of work, author's name, phone, email and age category. Age categories include 12 and under, 13 through 17 and 18 and up. Children's activity expo seeks vendors Local businesses and organizations that specialize in children's activities are invited to participate in EXPLORE!, a new children's activity expo designed to connect families with programs for kids of all ages. The event is hosted by Davis Parks School of Arts. It will take place April 4 at 780 W. Smith Road and is open to the public at no cost. EXPLORE! will bring together families and local providers who offer activities such as dance, music, art, theater, sports, gymnastics, swimming, early childhood education and tutoring. Parents can discover programs, meet instructors, ask questions and register for upcoming classes and camps. Local vendors are invited to reserve exhibitor space to showcase their services, distribute information, offer demonstrations and connect directly with families. To ensure variety, only one vendor per activity category will be accepted. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Hinckley Chamber expands scholarships The Hinckley Chamber of Commerce announced that applications are now open for four $1,000 scholarships available to graduating high school seniors and vocational students in the community. Out of the four scholarships, two of them will support students pursuing post-high school training programs, including technical certifications, apprenticeships and vocational education. Funds may be applied toward program enrollment fees, books, licensing costs, tools, uniforms or safety equipment. The two remaining scholarships will assist students pursuing college or university studies, helping cover tuition, textbooks, supplies and related expenses. Applications must be received on or before March 15, with scholarship recipients announced in April. Applications are available in the counselors' offices at Highland High School, Brunswick High School and the Medina County Career Center, as well as online at hinckleyohchamber.com/scholarships.
