College notes: Medina grad Andrew Supers ranked fourth in Division III wrestling

Andrew Supers continued his season of dominance for Baldwin Wallace. Ranked No. 4 in Division III at 165 pounds, the Medina graduate started by taking home the title at 165 pounds at the Tom Jarman Spartan Mat Classic hosted by Manchester University. He won four of his five matches by pin in 3:42 or quicker and the fifth match with an 18-3 technical fall, which was also his 100th career win. Supers was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season and fourth time in his career. He backed that up by sweeping three matches in convincing fashion in Ohio Athletic Conference action against Heidelberg, Mount Union and Otterbein. He won his match Heidelberg with an 18-5 major decision, against Mount Union with a 10-1 major decision and against Otterbein with a 19-3 technical fall. Supers is now 27-2 on the season. Men's basketball Sophomore Quinn Barnett (Brunswick) had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists for Walsh in a win over Tiffin. Redshirt sophomore Solomon Callaghan (Wadsworth) scored in double figures in a pair of games for Wright State with 15 points in a win over Youngstown State and 12 points in a loss to Cleveland State. That ran his streak of double-figure scoring games to seven. Women's basketball Redshirt sophomore Lea Holmes (Brunswick) continued her good season for Northwood, scoring in double figures in three straight wins. She had 18 points and eight rebounds in a win over Lake Erie, 15 and seven in a win over Cedarville and 18 and 12 in a win over Ohio Dominican. Men's wrestling Freshman Blaine Chrisman (Medina) won three matches for Mount Union in Ohio Athletic Conference action against Otterbeing, Heidelberg and Mount Union. At 184, Chrisman beat Baldwin Wallace's Remington Bauer by a 6-1 decision, Heidelberg's Owen Frizzell with a 5-3 decision and pinned Otterbein's Javon Lewis. Freshman Jack Dinwiddie (Wadsworth) had a pair technical falls at 141 for Wheeling against Shippensburg and Seton Hill. He defeated Shippensburg's Kaden Casey 16-0 and Seton Hill's Youssef Abdelsalem 20-4. Cornell freshman Jaxon Joy (Wadsworth), ranked No. 2 in D-I at 149, picked up Ivy League wins against over Brown and Harvard. He also picked up a win over West Point, getting a 14-1 lead after two periods and defeating Ryan Franco by a 17-1 technical fall. Men's track and field Sophomore Issac Baltic (Cloverleaf) won the pole vault at Akron's Al Campbell Invitational with a jump of 16 feet, 11 inches. Sophomore Tanner Sir Louis (Wadsworth) finished second in the pole vault for Ohio Wesleyan at the Muskie Meet with a mark of 4.10 meters. Akron senior Owen Wendl (Highland) won the shot put with a career-best 59-4.25 at Kent State's Jud Logan Invitational. His throw is third in Akron indoor history. He also finished second at the Al Campbell Invitational with a 58-3.75. Women's track and field Ohio Wesleyan junior Addie Beck (Wadsworth) finished second in the pole vault at the Muskie Meet with a mark of 3.24 meters. Akron sophomore Sophia Spencer (Highland) finished third at Kent State's Jud Logan Invitational in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:59.00. It was one of 16 top-three finishes for the Zips. Men's swimming and diving Junior Brayden Morford (Medina) won two events and finished second in a third as Carnegie Mellon defeated Denison in a dual. He finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (48.54) and 100 butterfly (49.10) while being a part of the second-place 200 medley relay. At the Western Pennsylvanian Invitational, Morford won the 200 IM (1:51.28) and the 200 breaststroke (2:05.84) while helping the 400 free relay set the pool record of 3:02.89.
