Low-pressure system, cold front brings wind gusts, drop in temperature and snow

CHIPPEWA LAKE — Several Medina County residences were without power Monday after a strong low-pressure system affected Northeast Ohio. As of 3 p.m. Monday, FirstEnergy reported several outages in Medina County, many of which were pending investigation. Brian Mitchell, an observing program leader at the National Weather Service in Cleveland, said a strong cold front moved through Sunday night into Monday morning, bringing with it wind gusts between 45 and 55 mph. Medina County was under a wind advisory through 1 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service Cleveland. While the wind gusts slowed down, Mitchell said the low-pressure system will keep them around. Today, gusts could get as high as 39 mph in Medina County. In addition to the dropped temperatures and wind gusts, Northeast Ohio began to experience snow later Monday morning. Snow is expected through Wednesday night. "(With) the wind to blow it around, it's not accumulating a lot at the moment, but certainly could reduce visibility greatly," Mitchell said. Today, the National Weather Service reported that there is a slight chance of snow after noon, with patchy blowing snow before 11 a.m. Today's high is expcted to be 26 degrees with wind chill values as low as zero. There is snow expected tonight, with a low of around 20 degrees. The wind gusts could be as high as 28 mph. On Wednesday, the high will be near 29 degrees and the low around 12 degrees, with snow expected after 1 p.m. The wind gusts could be as high as 29 mph.
