November results certified by Medina County Board of Elections

MEDINA — No races flipped from November's election, but some remained close, according to official election results. The Medina County Board of Elections certified the November election results during its meeting Tuesday. Voter turnout was approximately 29 percent with 37,736 ballots cast. Around 73 percent of ballots were cast on Election Day, while the remainder were absentee, early or provisional ballots. The failure of the Liverpool Township additional police levy was the closest issue in Medina County in November with a nine-vote difference. There were 780 people who voted for the additional levy, which is approximately 49.7 percent of the vote, and 789 people who voted against the levy, which is around 50.3 percent of the vote. The 0.25-mill additional levy would have lasted five years and generated an additional $88,100 per year to fund police services in the township. Races for Wadsworth City Council were the closest candidate races in the county. Democratic candidate for Wadsworth City Council Ward 4 Angela May received 13 more votes than Republican incumbent David Parish. May had about 50.7 percent of the vote with 455 votes while Parish had about 49.3 percent of the vote with 442 votes. The Wadsworth City Council Ward 3 race triggered an automatic recount because the margin between candidates was less than half of 1 percent. Republican incumbent Jeanne Hines had 50.2 percent of the vote, 83 votes, and Democratic candidate John Allen Schulze had 49.8 percent of the vote, which amounted to 380 votes. A hand count will take place Wednesday at the Board of Elections office. The Board of Elections also randomly selected which precincts will be audited. The board is required to audit at least 5 percent of the ballots cast, which is 1,887 ballots this election. The Medina County Drug Advisory Committee police levy, the Medina County Park District levy and the Medina City Schools Board of Education race will be audited.
