Paul St Denis, known for his creative spirit, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, in Medina, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of artistic contributions and educational skills. Born November 16, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Linnea Hulda Rosene and John Louis St Denis, Paul's early life was steeped in a nurturing environment that fostered his later accomplishments. Paul was survived by his sister, Linda Norris; his first daughter, Pauline Andree St Denis; his second daughter, Erin Lee St Denis; and his son, John Paul St Denis. His life was further enriched by the companionship of Mary Christine Klassen, and his two loyal dogs, Mimi and Coco, who were a source of joy and comfort to him. Paul's educational journey in the arts culminated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art and a Master of Fine Arts from Kent State University. His passion for teaching and sharing his love for art led him to a distinguished 27-year career as a professor at the Cleveland Institute of Art. During his tenure, he inspired countless students with his dedication to the craft and his innovative approach to education. His artistic prowess was evident in his watercolors, which were celebrated for their unique blend of simplicity and emotional depth. Some of his works possessed a 'primitive' appeal, while others drew comparisons to the evocative expressions found in the works of Mark Rothko. Paul's art was not only a personal journey but also a shared experience, as his pieces graced various group exhibitions, notably 'Watercolor Ohio' at the Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery in Columbus, Ohio.
