Liverpool Meadows Nature Preserve to open to the public on Saturday

LIVERPOOL TWP. — The second Medina County Park District property in Liverpool Township will open to the public on Saturday. The Liverpool Meadows Nature Preserve at 6601 West Law Road is 104 acres and features a restored prairie, wetlands and a mature forest. Park District Director Nate Eppink said the park district originally acquired the property in October 2005. Providing public access to the area was the final public-facing promise listed in the park district's 2015-2026 strategic plan. "With access to stunning views of the Rocky River, as well as a trail that winds through grassland and wetland habitats, Liverpool Meadows Nature Preserve will give visitors the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful nature experience in Liverpool Township," Deputy Director Ken Stray said. The property is on the west branch of the Rocky River, and the headwater stream was restored in 2009. "Once ditched and straightened along a farm field, the stream was reconstructed to follow its natural meandering path, improving water quality and wildlife habitat while reestablishing wetlands and riparian zones," the park district stated. "The upland portions of the property contain forests with mature trees and steep ravines, offering scenic views and diverse habitats. A significant portion of Liverpool Meadows is protected by an environmental covenant, ensuring long-term preservation of its natural character." The nature preserve now has a 0.9-mile gravel loop trail, a 15-car parking lot, a restroom building, access to the Rocky River on the northern part of the property and an observation area. Guests are permitted to bring their dogs on a leash. "There's a little bit of drainage work yet to be done, and we want to add some seating along the trail," Eppink said. "It's a really pretty property with really nice views of the Rocky River." The Zachary A. Weber Riverside Park at 6610 Center Road in Liverpool Township opened to the public on the Fourth of July. The park district's first public park in Liverpool Township was named in memory of Weber, a Buckeye graduate who died unexpectedly in 2024. "The addition of this preserve enhances life for all residents by protecting open space, promoting environmental stewardship and providing a place for recreation, reflection and community connection," Valley City Community Group member Mary Lou Czajka stated. "With (the) Medina County Park District opening the Zachary A. Weber Riverside Park earlier this year and the newest addition, Liverpool Meadows Nature Preserve, we can be assured that future generations will enjoy the same natural beauty and open landscapes we value today in the township."
