State Rep. Sharon Ray seeks relatives of Cpl. David James Amheiser State Rep. Sharon Ray, R-Wadsworth, is seeking the relatives of Cpl. David James Amheiser to invite them to a bill-signing ceremony next week. House Bill 56, which Ray introduced, would designate a portion of state Route 421 between U.S. Route 42 and Lodi Road as Cpl. David James Amheiser Memorial Highway. The legislation was passed by both the House and the Senate. It's planned to be signed by Gov. Mike DeWine on Nov. 18. Ray is looking for any relatives or those who served with Amheiser, as she would like to invite them to the bill-signing ceremony. Contact Ray's office at (614) 466-8140 with any information. Medina High School Constitutional Club with state leaders On Oct. 22, members of the Constitutional Club at Medina High School had the opportunity to meet virtually with Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and former Ohio Sen. Larry Obhof from Medina County. Students engaged in discussions about the Ohio Constitution, voting and elections while learning about LaRose's experiences in government and taking part in a question-and-answer session. Brunswick Schools to name BEAT Studio after community journalist Sam Boyer Brunswick Schools announced the new BEAT Studio in the future Brunswick High School will be named the "Sam Boyer BEAT Studio" in honor of the program mentor. The naming recognizes her six decades of work in the journalism industry and her role in developing the BEAT program's journalism curriculum in 2007. Since 2000, the BEAT video program has provided more than 1,200 students in grades six through 12 with hands-on journalism experience. Students write news stories, conduct on-camera interviews, edit, shoot and direct programs. The student-driven program has produced more than 4,000 programs since its inception. "Sam Boyer has not only chronicled the story of our school district and community with authenticity and care, but she has mentored generations of Brunswick students to find their own voices as journalists," Superintendent Jason Niedermeyer said. "Through the BEAT program and John Wasylko's leadership, our students gain real-world experience in media production while developing critical thinking, communication and storytelling skills. Sam's mentorship embodies the core competencies we value — helping students connect with their community, communicate effectively and take responsibility for sharing stories that matter."
