Water main to be replaced on Center Road in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK — The existing water main on Center Road from Garfield Avenue to 400 feet west of Troon Avenue in Brunswick will soon be replaced with the goal of preventing water main breaks in the area. Service Director Paul Magovac said the city applied for grants through Cleveland Water for the project. "We were able to receive the grant because of how many broken water lines there were in that section," he said. "Those were the worst areas, where most of the breakages were." Brunswick City Council passed a resolution for the city to enter into an agreement with HM Miller Construction Co. for the Center Road water main replacement project in an amount not to exceed $630,000 during its meeting Monday. Council passed a separate resolution on Monday for the city to enter into an agreement with Specialized Construction Inc. to resurface the same section of road once the water main is replaced. The agreement is not to exceed $292,272. "Cleveland Water is paying 100 percent for their water line replacement," Magovac said. "That's why we hired two companies. The first company that we hired is just to replace the water line and what is above the water line, and the second one was a paving company that is the 100 percent responsibility of the city of Brunswick." According to the city, the project is estimated to be finished within 45 days of contractor work, but there is no set date yet as to when work will begin. Brunswick will give residents an update on the project through the city's website at brunswick.oh.us when it receives more details on when construction will start. "This is going to be something that we're hoping will help fix the water main break issues," Vice Mayor Nick Hanek said. "We've been working on this for months.
