Possible delay in issuance of SNAP benefits As the federal government shutdown continues, the most recent communication from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services stated that the shutdown may cause a delay in new issuances of SNAP benefits starting Nov. 1. "We do not have information about how long the delay will last," Job and Family Services stated. "Unfortunately, this means no SNAP benefits will be issued in November if the shutdown continues. We are waiting for additional updates from the state and federal governments, and we will share more information on our website when it becomes available." The agency will continue to process new applications and client recertifications to ensure benefit accuracy when federal funding resumes. Leaf pickup in Medina Medina has three vacuum trucks dedicated to its leaf pickup program. The city will divide north and south at Smith Road and have two trucks making multiple passes moving from east to west. The third truck will float throughout the city, working in areas where the volume of leaves is particularly heavy. There is no way to predict the exact parts that the trucks will pass through neighborhoods. The city will make every attempt to pick up all the leaves before snow and ice cover them. Leaves that are covered with snow and ice cannot be picked up until they thaw since the snow and ice damage the vacuum equipment. The city gave the following tips: Rake leaves to the tree lawn as soon as possible. Do not rake leaves into the street. Doing so may be subject to a fine. Leaves in the street pose a safety hazard and also clog the stormwater drains. Do not place branches or other debris in the leaves. Do not park vehicles on the street and block leaf piles from being accessed. Do not allow children to play in leaf piles near the street. ORMACO concert The Cleveland Celtic Ensemble will have a performance at 7:30 p.m. today at the Cloverleaf Center for Performing Arts at 7540 Buffham Road in Seville. Tickets are $15 in advance. Tickets can be purchased online at ormaco.org or at Buehler's River Styx or Forest Meadows in Medina. Tickets are $20 at the door. Final depot museum open house The final scheduled 2025 depot museum open house is 1-4 p.m. Sunday at 6615 Center Road in Valley City. There are historic items such as the cash register that was used at the BH&L grain elevator on Center Road by the railroad tracks. Lodi Railroad Museum and Lodi Harrisville Historical Society open house The Lodi Railroad Museum and the Lodi Harrisville Historical Society will have their last open house of the season 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Stew and cornbread will be served at the depot. There will also be live entertainment like singing railroad songs. Everyone is welcome. Donations are appreciated, and all proceeds will be used to help these two historical sites. Road closure in Sharon Township Ridgewood Road in Sharon Township will be closed between Boneta Road and View Point Drive from Monday through Friday for culvert repair and road maintenance. The closure will be during daytime hours, while crews are present, and open only to emergency vehicles and buses. Delays are possible.
