Medina High School homecoming Medina High School's homecoming festivities will kick off on Thursday with a themed parade about the "World of Imagination and America 250" beginning at 6 p.m. The parade will start at the former Garfield Elementary School, travel down South Broadway Street to Union Street and end at Medina High School. Following the parade, the junior versus senior powderpuff football game will take place at Ken Dukes Stadium. Advanced tickets will be available online at medinabees.org for $5, plus a small processing fee. Additional tickets can be purchased the night of the event for $5, cash only. All proceeds benefit the Medina High School Link Crew. Homecoming continues on Friday with the varsity football game against Brunswick at 7 p.m. During the pregame show, the homecoming queen and escorts will be introduced. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display sponsored by the Medina High School student council, following the game. Brunswick High School students collect 122 pounds of pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House Brunswick High School students Izzy Heinbaugh-McCroskey and Jaxon Fronsee collected 122 pounds of pop tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Their initiative inspired VFW Post 9520 to contribute a matching $250 donation to further support the cause. The students transformed their service project into a friendly competition, engaging peers and community members in their collection efforts. Pop tabs, collected and recycled by Ronald McDonald House Charities, generate funds that help provide accommodations and support for families with children receiving medical treatment. "I'm incredibly proud of Izzy and Jaxon," Brunswick Superintendent Jason Niedermeyer said. "These students saw an opportunity to help others and jumped into action. They showed real leadership by turning their idea into a community effort. This kind of initiative and compassion for others is exactly what we hope to see in our students." Medina County College and Career Fair Students, parents and the public are invited to attend the 28th annual Medina County College and Career Fair from 6-7:30 p.m. today at the Medina County Fairgrounds Community Center at 735 Lafayette Road in Medina. Besides colleges and universities, the event has been expanded to include more local businesses that offer training, further education and internships. Again this year, students will be offered a bingo-type card, which encourages them to visit more participating exhibitors' tables. Upon completing the passport, students will turn it in and receive a prize from the Educational Service Center of Medina County. A list of participating organizations can be found at medina-esc.org under "Special Events" and "College and Career Fair." StriveScan, an optional feature, provides student-scanning technology. Some organization representatives will be participating. To register for a barcode before the fair, go to strivefair.com. During the fair, students will show their barcode to organization representatives who will scan it to send students more information about their schools. The day after the fair, students will receive a report with information on the organizations that they scanned. The fair is being hosted by the Educational Service Center of Medina County and Medina County Economic Development Corporation. Senior and Caregiver Expo at Soprema Senior Center The Soprema Senior Center in Wadsworth will hold its Senior and Caregiver Expo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The event is free to attend, and all community center parking lots are open. The event will feature: More than 100 vendors Door prizes and giveaways Flu and COVID vaccines from the Medina County Health Department Medicare checkups by Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program volunteers Free tote bag courtesy of Summa Health Lunch specials in the Soprema Café Attendees can also visit the caregiver VIP room from 9-10 a.m. for refreshments and activities. People are encouraged to stop in anytime during the expo to register for a free gift. The event is funded by the Wadsworth Older Adults Foundation and a family caregiver grant from the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging.
