York Township to have renewal park levy on November ballot

YORK TWP. — York Township residents will vote on a renewal park levy in the upcoming general election. Trustee Rick Monroe said the York Township Community Park was built in 2011, and a levy was put in place because funding was needed to maintain the park. "The whole park is open to the public, not York Township residents only," he said. "It's open to anybody else who wants to use it." The park has a playground, a large pavilion, a sledding hill, a permanent restroom and a pond where people can catch and release fish. Monroe said a Gold Star Memorial is also in the York Township Community Park, which the township takes a lot of pride in. "(The park is) connected to the Medina County Parks' Lester Rail Trail," he said. "It's something we've worked with the Medina County Park District on many years ago." York Township residents will vote on a 0.5-mill renewal levy that would last five years and raise $90,100 per year. According to the auditor's office, residents would pay $10.82 per $100,000 in home valuation if the levy passes. Funding from the levy goes toward upkeep of the park based on what is needed, Monroe said. The funds have been used for services like lawn maintenance, tree trimming, playground mulch, maintaining playground equipment, tree removal and snow plowing the parking lots during the winter.
