College notes: Wadsworth's Ellie Zuro Cirino has hot start for Pitt-Johnstown

Ellie Zuro Cirino (Wadsworth) has had quite the start this season for Pitt-Johnstown volleyball, helping lead the Mountain Cats to a 5-2 record. The 5-foot-10 junior leads the Mountain Cats with 112 kills through seven matches and has led the team in kills in each one. She has had at least 14 kills in six of the seven matches. In a win over Frostburg State, she set a career high with 19 kills. Less than 24 hours later, she upped that mark to 22 in a loss to Shippensburg. Football Senior Drew Allar (Medina) threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-0 win over Florida International on Sept. 6 and then had 209 yards passing and a score in a 52-6 win over Villanova on Saturday. Senior Aaron Filips (Highland) started at quarterback for Case Western Reserve in a 17-17 tie against Rowan on Sept. 6 and completed 17-of-24 passes for 236 yards and a score while also running for 48 yards and a touchdown before the game was called due to weather in the third quarter. Men's cross country Senior Luke Malena (Cloverleaf) was the top finisher for Gannon in 19:26.7 at the Race in the Park on Sept. 5. He finished third. Women's volleyball Sophomore Aubrey Miranda (Medina) led Mount St. Joseph with 17 kills in a loss to John Carroll. Sophomore Emily Piehler (Medina) was second for Marietta with 11 kills in a loss to Juniata and again with 10 kills in a win over Muhlenburg. Sophomore Izzy Shank (Highland) led Walsh University with 12 kills in a win over Lock Haven. Sophomore Alayna Tessena (Highland) led Northern Colorado by tying a season high with 23 in kills loss to Incarnate Word. 5. Through eight matches, she led the Bears with 117 kills. Men's golf Freshman Zach Butcher (Highland) finished third for Ohio Northern at the Joe Campoli Memorial with an even-par 72. He also helped the Polar Bears win the Lourdes Invitational by shooting a 3-over 74, the second-best score on the team. Freshman Coen Miller (Medina) finished tied for 10th at the Joe Campoli Memorial with a 5-over 77 for Baldwin-Wallace. Junior Brian Myers (Wadsworth) shot 4-over for Mount Union to finish tied for fourth at the Malone-Glenmoor Classic. He was then named Ohio Athletic Conference co-Golfer of the Week after shooting a 141 (70-71) to lead the Purple Raiders to a second-place finish at the Mount Union Fall Invitational. Women's golf Senior Ari Kaser (Wadsworth) shot an 18-over 162 (82-80) to finish fourth overall for California-Pennsylvania at the Wheeling Invitational held at Belmont Hills Country Club. Women's soccer Sophomore Brooke Allen (Bunswick) scored the second goal of her Wisconsin career in a 3-0 win over Northern Illinois. Freshman Cece Craig (Wadsworth) scored her first collegiate goal for Ashland in just her second game, finding the net in a 3-0 win over Slippery Rock. Junior Ella Dinwiddie (Wadsworth) scored her first goal of the season against Chatham in a 2-0 win for Mount Union.
