Board of Elections reverses decision on candidate's petition for Brunswick Hills trustee for November election

MEDINA — The Medina County Board of Elections reversed its decision on the candidate petition for Christina Kusnerak during its meeting on Monday. Kusnerak is a Brunswick Hills trustee and is running for another term on the board of trustees. The board of elections certified more than 100 candidates who are running in local races during its Aug. 18 meeting, but others were not certified. "The concern was that on one page of (Kusnerak's) petition under the column city, village or township, everybody on that page just wrote the word township," Board of Elections Chair Pam Miller said. "We at a previous meeting did disallow this and voted not to allow this candidate to advance to the ballot." The board went into executive session with a member of the Medina County Prosecutor's Office. Once the board went out of executive session, it voted to reverse its previous decision and certify her petition. "I would like an agenda item the next time around so that we can discuss future (candidate) certifications and role of legal counsel," board member Donald Baker said. Kusnerak did not respond to a request for comment regarding the board's decision as of Monday evening. There are two open seats for Brunswick Hills trustee in the November election, and the following people are now running in the race: Thomas DeCastra Tony Destro Katherine Esber Ryan Kolegar Christina Kusnerak Trica Murphy The election is on Nov. 4, and early in-person voting starts on Oct. 7.
