Renovation complete on new Litchfield Township administration building

LITCHFIELD TWP. — Various Litchfield Township departments are now moved into the newly renovated administration building, which was formerly the Litchfield United Church of Christ. Earlier this year, a contract was awarded to Crown Commercial Construction to renovate the building for approximately $217,000. Trustee Joe Seifert said the renovation turned out great. "The contractor, Crown Commercial Construction, did a great job," he said. "It's nice since they happen to be a local resident too, so it made it that much sweeter." The sanctuary where church services used to be held is now the public meeting room for trustee meetings, Seifert said. "We used the two existing offices for the zoning office and one for our cemetery sexton's office," he said. "Then, we added a new office for our fiscal officer and administrative assistant. The kitchen area we opened up and made it a big workstation, and that's where our trustee offices are." Previously, the fiscal officer was working out of the fire station, the zoning inspector worked out of a small office in the annex building behind town hall, and the trustees and the cemetery sexton did not have a dedicated space, Seifert said. "It just made things so much nicer, more efficient and more productive to be in one space under one roof," he said. "The location is perfect, being right on the town circle. It couldn't be a better location." The new space also allows residents to easily access government services in one place, Seifert said. "We use part of the old fellowship hall at the old church, and we put a big table and chairs in there for when we have to meet with residents," he said. "For example, if the zoning inspector has to meet with a resident to do a site plan review or a lot split, they can lay out all the drawings on this big table and meet with the residents there in that space." The former church on the town circle at 3928 Avon Lake Road was built in 1895. In 2023, the congregation decided to close the church because of low membership and then donated the building to the township. "I would like to thank, on behalf of the board of trustees, the Litchfield United Church of Christ for their generous donation and stress how wonderful this is for the township," Seifert said.
