Woman dies in single-vehicle crash on state Route 3 A Medina woman died in a single-vehicle crash on Friday morning after she was ejected from the vehicle. According to the State Highway Patrol's Medina post, the preliminary investigation showed that a 2015 GMC Yukon XL was traveling northbound on state Route 3 near Pierce Road just before 9 a.m. The vehicle drove off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned. The driver was identified as Nicole Johnson, 52, of Medina. Johnson was the sole occupant of the vehicle. She was unbelted and ejected from the vehicle. Johnson was transported to Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital, where she died from her injuries. The State Highway Patrol troopers were assisted by Medina Fire Department, Medina Police Department, Medina Township Police Department, Medina Life Support Team and Heidi's Towing. The crash remains under investigation. State Board of Education president to speak at Spring Grove Cemetery Friends of the Cemetery announced that the president of the State Board of Education and co-chair of the America 250 Ohio K-12 Education Committee, Paul LaRue, will be a speaker at an upcoming event. The event will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum. Attendees are invited to gather at the tent near the Soldiers' Mount at the Spring Grove Street entrance. His presentation, "I Never Met a Cemetery I Didn't Like," aligns with the upcoming America 250 celebration. It also supports the Friends of The Cemetery's ongoing project to restore and preserve historic gravestones, including those of Revolutionary War patriots, at Medina's Old Town Graveyard. The event is free and open to the public. York Township Historical Society annual meeting The York Township Historical Society's annual meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at York Town Hall at 6609 Norwalk Road. Program speakers Linda Beardsley and Christine Barnes will share the history and memories of growing up on FranMar Farms. The farm is owned by their parents, Frank and Marilyn Ehrman, who were charter members of the York Township Historical Society. A short business meeting will precede the program, and light refreshments will be served. Admission is free and open to the public. John Smart House Museum open house The Medina County Historical Society has extended its "Yesterday's Toys" exhibit. The display will be at the John Smart House Museum at 206 N. Elmwood Ave. The museum and the exhibit will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The last tour starts at 3:30 p.m. Admission donation prices are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students from seven to 18-years-old. Children under seven are free with a hand-holding adult. Historical society members receive a discount. There is also a new scavenger hunt at the museum for younger visitors. Live at the Library concert ORMACO and The Wadsworth Public Library will continue its Live at the Library concert series with Rachel Brown at 2 p.m. Sunday at the library. Water improvement project in Medina This week, the contractor will begin concrete restoration work along South Elmwood Avenue between Lafayette Road and West Smith Road. The northbound lane of South Elmwood Avenue will be closed for approximately six days while concrete restoration work within the roadway is being completed. Local access to all businesses and residents will be maintained during this closure utilizing the southbound lane only. This work will include the replacement of any curb, sidewalk, curb ramps, drive aprons or pavement that was disturbed with the transfer of water services associated with this project. Traffic along West Liberty Street and South Elmwood Avenue between West Liberty Street and West Washington Street will be reopened fully to traffic. Upcoming road closures Congress Road in Harrisville Township will be closed from Monday until Oct. 3 between Crawford Road and Greenwich Road, for bridge No. 9 deck replacement. Columbia Road in Lafayette Township will be closed on Monday and Tuesday between the south side of the intersection of Smith Road and continuing south approximately 100 feet for a culvert replacement. Also, Columbia Road in Lafayette Township will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday between Palker Road and Lafayette Road for a culvert replacement. Mennonite Road in Wadsworth Township will be closed from Monday through Sept. 26 for a road culvert replacement between Greenwich Road and Woodview Drive. The intersection of Pinehurst Drive and North Jefferson Street in Medina Township will be closed for 10 days starting Monday. There will be no through traffic on Pinehurst Drive. The intersection of Pinehurst Drive and Sequoia Drive in Medina Township will be closed for 10 days starting Monday. There will be no through traffic on Sequoia Drive.
