College notes: Wadsworth alumnae inducted into schools' halls of fame

The beginning of the 2025-26 school year brought good news for two former Wadsworth athletes, as Peyton (Banks) Smith and Kristen (Bennett) Martin were selected to be honored by their respective college hall of fame. Smith will be one of 12 basketball players honored in the final Siena Heights class on Feb. 14. The school announced in June that it would close for good following the 2025-26 academic year. In five seasons for the Saints, Smith played in 131 games and scored a school-record 2,193 points. She was named an NAIA All-American four times, was the three-time Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Year and also was a three-time NAIA Scholar Athlete. Martin will be inducted into the Otterbein Hall of Fame in mid-October for her triumphs in volleyball and track and field. A 2013 graduate, she transferred from Xavier and became the only Otterbein athlete to be named an Academic All-American three times in two sports. In track and field, she still holds Otterbein records in the long jump and triple jump, while she was an honorable mention All-American in volleyball and helped the Cardinals to their first Ohio Athletic Conference title in 2012. Football Senior Drew Allar (Medina) opened his final season with Penn State by going an efficient 22-for-26 for 217 yards and a touchdown in a 46-11 win over Nevada. Allar played just the first three quarters. Junior JuJuan Jackson (Medina) had an interception and three tackles in Walsh's 38-10 win over West Liberty. Junior Carston Marshall (Wadsworth) tied for second on the team with 10 tackles as Youngstown State defeated Mercyhurst 24-15. The Iowa State transfer also had a tackle for loss and pass breakup. Senior Matt Spatny (Medina) had two tackles — both for loss — as Lehigh defeated Richmond 21-14 to open the season. Women's cross country Junior Cara Razavi (Medina) was the second-highest finisher for Miami of Ohio in the season-opening Redhawk Rumble. Her time of 18:01.6 placed eighth. Women's volleyball Freshman Karley Allwood (Wadsworth) started her Marietta career with nine kills in a 3-1 win over Clarkson. Mount St. Joseph sophomore Aubrey Miranda (Medina) has 25 kills through the first four matches, fourth on the team. Sophomore Emily Piehler (Medina) had nine kills in each of the first two matches for Marietta (both wins) and has 22 kills through four matches overall. Sophomore Alyana Tessena (Highland) leads Northern Colorado with 27 kills through two matches, including 21 in a win over Washington. Women's soccer Wisconsin sophomore Brooke Allen (Brunswick) scored her first career goal in a 4-0 win over Central Michigan. Northern Kentucky sophomore Riley Evans (Cloverleaf) has a goal and two assists through four games. Freshman Luisa Fragnoli (Highland) started her Akron career by being named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week. She helped the Zips earn a 0-0 draw against Purdue Fort Wayne and scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Eastern Illinois. Miami of Ohio junior Kayla Perfect (Medina) found the net for the first time in her career, scoring against Chicago State in a 3-0 win. Junior Olivia Sipsock (Medina) helped Eastern Michigan secure a 3-1 win over Southern Indiana with her first goal of the season.
