Ohio Department of Transportation considering roundabouts at Marks Road and Substation Road intersections with state Route 303

BRUNSWICK HILLS TWP. — The Ohio Department of Transportation is considering the installation roundabouts in the future at the state Route 303 intersections with Marks Road and Substation Road in Brunswick Hills. ODOT District 3 Public Information Officer Kaitlyn Thompson said the department conducted its original study of the area between 2019 and 2021. The study was later updated in 2024 and 2025 to reflect current traffic data, crash data and more refined design layouts, and roundabouts are recommended for both intersections based on the study. "Roundabouts are a recommended intersection improvement that address safety and congestion concerns," she said. "Roundabouts can move traffic more efficiently, which reduces delays and fuel consumption. This is because traffic generally doesn't need to come to a full stop at the intersection." Installing roundabouts at each intersection is still in a preliminary phase. "When designing any project, part of the process is to minimize impacts to property owners and utilities," Thompson said. "With limited existing state right of way on the corridor of both locations, some impacts will be necessary. We will have more information on those impacts in the future." The cost estimate for the project is $7.85 million, and the cost includes design, right-of-way and construction. She said $5 million is allocated for construction costs alone. "ODOT is in the process of applying for safety funding for both locations," Thompson said. "Applications are due at the end of this month. If funding is awarded, the current plan is for construction to begin in 2031."
