Medina County Senior and Adult Services closes out picnic at the patio program with a luau

MEDINA — Medina County seniors dressed in Hawaiian shirts and leis to celebrate the end of summer during a luau held by Medina County Senior and Adult Services on Friday. The luau concluded the agency's picnic at the patio program for the year. Director Laura Toth said the agency hosted six picnics outside over the course of the summer, and the program went well this year. Friday's picnic featured chicken breast, sweet potato casserole, cold salads and cheesecake while musician Scott Sopata performed on guitar and the steel drums for those in attendance. Deputies from the Medina County Sheriff's Office later handed out ice cream and popsicles from the Medina County Police Activities League ice cream truck. "A lot of people come here just to socialize and hang out with each other, so there's a lot of fellowship and some good music and some good food," Toth said. The luau had a large turnout with an estimated 150 to 175 people attending, which is a larger number than usual, she said. "That's huge," Toth said. "Our picnics are always around 120 people, and this is always our largest picnic. This is a fantastic turnout, and the weather seems to be just perfect today." Picnic at the patio typically brings in a lot of new people, and it allows them to experience what the agency has to offer alongside live entertainment and lunch, she said. "People can learn about our agency, so we try to make our newsletters available," Toth said. "We have all of our staff on hand should anybody have any questions about the services we offer. If they don't, that's okay too. They can just come and have a good time." Medina County Senior and Adult Services offers a variety of programming for older adults.
